14 That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud.^(A)

⁴ When the angel of the Lord had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud,^(A)

⁹ May the Lord grant that each of you will find rest^(A) in the home of another husband.”

Then she kissed^(B) them goodbye and they wept aloud^(C)

⁴ When the messengers came to Gibeah^(A) of Saul and reported these terms to the people, they all wept^(B) aloud.

³⁰ But David continued up the Mount of Olives, weeping^(A) as he went; his head^(B) was covered and he was barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads too and were weeping as they went up.

The People’s Confession of Sin

10 While Ezra was praying and confessing,^(A) weeping^(B) and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites—men, women and children—gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.

⁶ Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping^(A) as he went. When he met them, he said, “Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.”^(B)
