An Annual Atonement

²⁹ “This shall be a permanent statute for you: ^(A)in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble ^[a]yourselves and not ^(B)do any work, whether the native, or the stranger who resides among you; ³⁰ for it is on this day that ^[b]atonement shall be made for you to ^(C)cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before the Lord. ³¹ It is to be a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, so that you may ^(D)humble ^[c]yourselves; it is a permanent statute.

²⁷ “On exactly ^(A)the tenth day of this seventh month is ^(B)the Day of Atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you, and you shall humble ^[a]yourselves and present an offering by fire to the Lord. ²⁸ You shall not do any work on this very day, for it is a ^(C)Day of Atonement, ^(D)to make atonement on your behalf before the Lord your God. ²⁹ If there is any ^[b]person who does not humble himself on this very day, ^(E)he shall be cut off from his people.

⁷ ‘Then on ^(A)the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy assembly, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work.
