Cry, ‘Gather together,’

And let us go into the fortified cities.’
⁶ Set up the ^[a]standard toward Zion.
Take refuge! Do not delay!
For I will bring disaster from the ^(C)north,
And great destruction.”

^7 (D)The lion has come up from his thicket,
And ^(E)the destroyer of nations is on his way.
He has gone forth from his place
^(F)To make your land desolate.
Your cities will be laid waste,
Without inhabitant.

¹⁴ “Why do we sit still?
^(A)Assemble yourselves,
And let us enter the fortified cities,
And let us be silent there.
For the Lord our God has put us to silence
And given us ^(B)water^[a] of gall to drink,
Because we have sinned against the Lord.
