⁷ On a hill east^(A) of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh^(B) the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek^(C) the detestable god of the Ammonites. ⁸ He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.

⁴ He built altars^(A) in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “In Jerusalem I will put my Name.”^{(B) 5} In the two courts^(C) of the temple of the Lord, he built altars to all the starry hosts.

³⁷ “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,^(A) how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,^(B) and you were not willing.
